Paragon Innovations Selected to Design a Test/Evaluation Board Platform for Alchemy Semiconductor Inc.'s First System-on-a-Chip

DALLAS – July 25, 2000 – Paragon Innovations Inc., a leading provider of outsourced embedded systems design and development services, announced today that it has been selected by Alchemy Semiconductor Inc. in Austin, Texas, to design and build a prototype evaluation/test board for Alchemy's first system-on-a-chip (SOC), the Au1000™ Internet Edge Processor™.

Paragon is designing, building and testing the Alchemy evaluation/test board that includes both hardware and software.

Paragon's evaluation/test board will demonstrate the features and capabilities of the Au1000 system-on-a-chip, which can be used in products ranging from personal digital assistants (PDAs) and mobile phones to Internet appliances and set-top boxes.

Initially, Paragon and Alchemy Semiconductor will both be responsible for specifying the evaluation board requirements and design specifications. Paragon will then build and debug prototypes prior to producing the evaluation/test boards, and also create users' manuals.

"Paragon's evaluation/test boards will help Alchemy Semiconductor exhibit the powerful features and capabilities of the Au1000 chip to potential customers," said Michael Wilkinson, chief executive officer of Paragon Innovations. "The evaluation/test boards will demonstrate the chip in action, and customers will be able to 'see' how the chip works and the potential for it."

Based on the MIPS32™ instruction set and designed for high performance at very low power, the Au1000 is Alchemy's first system-on-a-chip (SOC). Highly integrated with on-chip memory controllers and Internet access peripherals, the Au1000 runs a variety of operating systems, including Windows® CE, Linux®, and VxWorks®. Alchemy has also integrated a set of peripherals on the Au1000 targeted at communications market segments with products that operate on the outer edge of the Internet network, such as wireless palm-sized PCs, 3G (third-generation) data devices, VoIP telephony devices and networking products like residential gateways, firewalls and routers.

"We chose Paragon Innovations to design and build the evaluation/test boards for the Au1000 because of their comprehensive design experience and in-depth documentation procedures," said Eric Broockman, president and chief executive officer of Alchemy Semiconductor Inc. "Paragon's design will be the launching point for our chip and it will help to set us apart as a premier system-on-a-chip provider."
