Hospital patients gain advanced safety, quality assurance with bar-code scanning and more

Paragon Innovations showcases emerging IV pump at Anaheim tradeshow, Feb. 5-7

What: Paragon Innovations Inc. showcases a soon-to-be released infusion system that incorporates bar-code scanning technologies to advance patient safety and enhance clinical quality assurance.

The B. Braun Medical Inc. Horizon Outlook™ with DoseScan™ infusion system, scheduled for spring release, extends its market position with engineering expertise from Paragon, a Plano, Texas-based company specializing in technology development and design.

See a complete demonstration of the B. Braun Horizon Outlook™ infusion system, which utilizes the patented DoseScan™ feature to increase safety and security by eliminating a major source of IV medication errors – manual programming of the infusion device:

  • Pharmacist receives patient prescription via the Physicians order.
  • The pharmacist confirms the prescribed IV order and labels the medication with a patient-specific bar-code label.
  • The IV medication is delivered to the nursing unit.
  • At the bedside, the clinician scans a Nurse ID badge to verify authorization
  • Scans Patient ID to identify correct patient
  • Scans Patient ID on the medication to confirm matching with the ‘right’ patient
  • Scans Infusion data on medication label to program the infusion device
