Cruising with the Olson 25

As I mentioned, we have been out of racing for a while, though at one
time we did well in the Chesapeake’s CBYRA in the NS class - easier to
get crew, my wife and I could handle the boat as a twosome, and my son’s
father-in-law (who began with us before acquiring that “title”) was a very
constant crew member - particularly in our best season. Eventually
I was more concerned about the rules (both sailing and equipment) than
enjoying the racing - so it was time to change gears. My wife and
I find the Olson 25 to be a great little cruiser - easy for two of us to
handle, reasonably fast, and able to gunkhole in the Chesapeake Bay reasonably
well because of its draft. (You also go “squish” instead of “bonk”
if you are overly confident re the depth.) We have been out
for one to two week cruises (give or take a day) with other boats in our
sailing club - as long as we can get to fuel and a place to empty the portajohn
every couple of days it works real well. Of course, we also enjoyed
tent camping when we were younger and took the kids on vacation.

The Olson 25 Nationals are going to be at Berkeley Yacht Club in August 2009.
The Canadian Olson 25 Nationals are going to be at Barrie Yacht Club in September 2009.
The 33rd America's Cup protocol stipulates all new yachts. They will be 90 ft and require approx. 20 crew members. The earlier races (Acts) will be held with the old AC class boats.
